Front of House Event Support Staff

Public Events & Private Rentals

Location: New Haven, CT 06511

Status: Per Diem, Scheduled based on event needs, Opportunities for repeat shifts.

Reports to: Event Coordinator

Compensation: Hourly compensation: $25-$28 per hour based on the type of event.

Position Summary

Front of House Event Support Staff assist with the setup, execution, and breakdown of a wide range of museum events and programs. This role supports both public-facing and behind-the-scenes operations, helping ensure that events run smoothly, spaces remain organized, and guests feel welcomed and supported.

Event types may include private rentals, public museum events, happy hours, movie nights, lectures, community programs, special exhibitions, and general museum open hours. Shifts are scheduled based on event needs and may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Key Responsibilities

Public Events & Programs

  • Greet and welcome visitors during public programs and museum open hours
  • Assist with ticketing, check-in, coat-check, wristbands, and guest flow
  • Provide general information about the museum, exhibits, and programming
  • Monitor public spaces to ensure guest safety and a positive visitor experience
  • Support bar operations, concessions, or merchandise sales as assigned
  • Help maintain cleanliness and organization of public-facing areas

Private Rentals & Special Events

  • Assist with event setup and breakdown (tables, chairs, linens, signage, etc.)
  • Support renters, vendors, and caterers with basic on-site needs
  • Monitor event flow and help maintain rental boundaries, timelines, and guest movement
  • Assist with bar service support, restocking, and guest guidance as directed
  • Help enforce museum policies and rental guidelines in a professional, courteous manner
  • Serve as a point of contact for guest questions or issues, escalating to the Event Coordinator as needed

General Support

  • Maintain a calm, professional, and welcoming presence at all times
  • Communicate clearly with event leads and museum staff
  • Bus tables and event areas throughout events, promptly addressing spills and maintaining a clean, safe, and organized environment in public and rental spaces
  • Assist with event close-out procedures and end-of-night checks
  • Support accessibility and inclusion for all guests

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in hospitality, events, museums, theater front of house, or high-end customer service environments (such as restaurants, hotels, private clubs, catered events, or comparable guest-facing roles)
  • Demonstrated commitment to delivering exceptional guest service with strong attention to detail and professionalism
  • Ability to anticipate guest needs and respond thoughtfully in a fast-paced, event-driven setting
  • Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Comfortable interacting with a wide range of guests, including donors, VIPs, artists, and private clients
  • Ability to remain calm, courteous, and solutions-oriented under pressure
  • Strong situational awareness and ability to follow event timelines, instructions, and museum protocols
  • Physically able to stand, walk, and remain active for extended periods
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs and assist with light physical setup and breakdown
  • Reliable, punctual, and flexible with evening and weekend availability
  • Experience with bar, catering, or food service environments is a plus, but not required

Position Details

  • Per diem, scheduled based on event needs
  • Shifts typically range from 3–6 hours
  • Hourly compensation: $25 - $28 per hour based on the type of event.
  • Training provided on ticketing system, museum policies, POS system, and other systems as required.

Work Environment

This role is based in a historic museum and active event space. Event Support Staff may work during private rentals, film screenings, lectures, receptions, and public programs. The environment is dynamic, guest-focused, and requires flexibility, attention to detail, and a collaborative mindset.
